Challenge Center serves students
in the area of math and social studies who score in the 96th percentile
on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) or equivalent standardized
tests. It is a replacement curriculum.
Talent Pool
is an enrichment curriculum designed as a pullout program. Students who
score in the 90th percentile or above are served in their areas of
interest in addition to their classroom work.
The social studies curriculum is aligned with the Council Bluffs District Benchmarks as well as the National Standards. Each grade level includes the study of landforms, map skills, government, history, economics, and current events in greater depth and at a more rigorous pace than the regular classroom. Therefore, it is essential for students to be in attendance and complete assignments on time. In order to help keep both parents and students informed about student progress, a missing assignment report will be sent on a biweekly schedule. This is one time where "No news is good news!" and is cause for celebration. The lessons are taught using a variety of learning style strategies. Students will set goals for their academic achievement and track their progress on a quarterly basis. Parents are invited to be a part of this process. The students will also enjoy learning research skills, participating in simulations and, where it is appropriate, choosing the presentation method. |
